On September 8, WOLA sent a letter to Cuban President Raul Castro, requesting that the Cuban government release Alan Gross on humanitarian grounds. The US contractor has been in prison for nearly two years, and has significant health concerns. In the letter, WOLA states that "it would be a generous and humanitarian gesture to parole Mr. Gross and return him to his family."
